I know right now we are all trying to squeeze our accounts and looking at our profit margins to make it make sense. We are cutting out all unnecessary expenses. I know I even had to call Verizon Wireless yesterday because I just noticed they were still taking money out of my account when I switched carriers in March. (I know, I should be checking the account EVERYDAY!)
So while we are auditing our expenses, the question is, are dispatchers necessary enough to cut into our profit margin? Can we keep that 5-10% ourselves? Many people fail to realize all that dispatching entails. Dispatching is not a walk in the park, especially in this market. It's rough out here!
In a perfect world, the trucker would wake up to a load from a broker, not have to do any paperwork, drive less than 75 miles to a shipper, get loaded in 30 minutes, drive to the receiver and get off loaded within an hour and go rest. Perfect world, right? 😂 In that case, dispatchers may not be needed. We know that is not the reality of our lives.
As great dispatchers, we try our best to make life simpler for truckers- Understanding the needs of the drivers and/or owner operators, trying to obtain the best rate per mile, determining the best routes for fuel efficiency, communicating with brokers, checking the weather, minimizing deadhead, building relationships and factoring loads. A LOT right?
It can be difficult for a driver and/or owner operator to have to focus on the road plus deal with the role of a dispatcher. To assist with keeping the funds in house, I have trained several siblings, wives and children of owner operators. Regardless of your relationship to the owner operator, dispatchers are clearly necessary. Guess what else, FMCSA has deemed dispatchers as an important necessity to the industry, so there you have it! 😁
This is why The Dispatcher Planner is also necessary! The Dispatch Planner boasts a user-friendly interface designed for dispatchers of all experience levels. An intuitive experience, making planning and execution a breeze.
